This article tells about how Christie's main foe is the NJEA because they mounted a masssive campaign effort aimed at defeating him. He riled up the NJEA by holding back $475 million in state subsidies to public school districts.

This article explains how the funding in New Jersey works. It explains how the Abbott system works, and how it came into being. In the article, it states that New Jersey spends more money on education than any other state. It also says that the Abbott system is not entirely fair to all school districts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abbott_District

This web page outlines the definition and history of Abbot districts. The term strictly applies to towns in Jersey, and they were defined by a series of court rulings in 1985. These disticts include Asbury Park, Bridgeton,Burlington, and East Orange.

This article mentions and talks about how the wealthier school districts have better academic results because of the extra money they can spend because it is affordable to them. On the other hand, the Abbott districts do not have property or income wealth to allow them to spend an equal amount per student, the state must make up the difference.

This is not fair to middle-class people who are paying the price. They do not benefit from this at all, and they are the ones who should deserve the benefit if they are paying the money. Instead the money is going to people who cant pay for it themselves, there needs to be a better solution. This is not right

This article explains how solutions for New Jersey believes that the education funding issue and property issue are inseparable and the solution of each problem will directly affect the other. New Jersey has thought that money was the answer to the failing urban schools when in fact they were wrong, considering for three decades and tens of billions of dollars later, the situation is actually worse. This article talks about the Abbott Funding, School Categories, School Choice and Testing.

I agree with the article about how money is not the only problem in the system which we thought it to be for a while. I also agree with the article when it states that “If spending $10 billion has not produce results in a decade, it never will” because obviously if you have tried something for a while and it the situation is not getting better then it will not get better even though we like to think it will. Also testing is not really helping the kids learn therefore they shouldn’t be taken as often as they are.

School Funding: This article explains the issue of the Abbot districts and how the government equalizes the most money spent in a wealthy district and spends the same amount on a failing district. This article seems to be against blindly throwing money where it is not needed in these districts. I agree with the statement that we need to equalize education and not funding. Until the focus is placed on education and not the amount money spent, the problem will continue to worsen.
