VMAs

Yesterday was 2010 MTV music Video Awards. http://www.mtv.com/ontv/vma/2010/. Did you watch it? Why or why not? What did you think of this anniversary show? Do you like its format and performances? Why or why not? Do you agree with the nominees and winners? If not, who should have been picked for each category? Should there be other musical categories? If so, which ones?

Samantha,
I would have to disagree. Although Eminem has always been one of my favorite rappers, he is not beating Lil Wayne. His voice is annoying like someone is yelling at you. Plus I like his old stuff better.

lil wayne shud stay in jail he broke the law , he went to jail . justice is served

Jersey shore is honestly dumb but it catches people's attention because its funny to watch these people use their lives with the gtl moto and then go out and party every night. That will definately get them some where in life.

Well, there is a lot of layering, to keep is simple. Led Zeppelin is really good at that. But it's hard for me to explain unless you know music, meaning music theory.

Stephanie,
Again, you can't define an artist by how many fans they have. You can't define a singer because they have 12 year old fans. Linkin Park, for example, I know a whole lot of preteen fans that listen to them. But that doesn't define their music (Not that Linkin Park is any good). Also, I never said that pop artists are bad singers I said that they were bad artists. A lot of pop singers have good voices. It's just that their songs aren't any good. Especially since more then half of the pop singers today don't even write their own music.. You can't even call them artists when they don't write their own songs.

I agree with you miss rotter that some of Kesha songs are giving the same messages, but I still like her songs much better than justin bieber songs.

I agree with sam eminem raps about life and his problems, all wayne raps about is sex drugs and violence

i would have to agree with samantha about eminem being a better rapper...Don't get me wrong Lil wayne is a good rapper but Eminem has a better flow and he's talking about how he grew up.Unlike lil wayne who was born a millionaire in New Orleans.

i Just think Lil wayne is on the faker side with his songs but i still like them. +RECOVERY+

I think The best rapper is Vinnie paz of jedi mind tricks although not very know if you ever listened to jedi mind tricks you know that it is real music along with Pink Floyd because Pink floyd is imagination and also tells stories that the band mates have gone through

Anonymous,

I agree about Pink Floyd. what is your favorite song and why?

Im bord....help!!!!!

I think that eminem should have won video of the year instead of lady gaga. Not only did his song actually mean something, he deserves the respect for making such a comback.

Unknown said...

yea the vmas wernt good they need bands like blink 182

Unknown said...

I agree, i belive that eminem should have wonm instead of lady gaga. Eminem is alot better then she will ever be.

The VMA's wasnt even close to being entertaining this year. Normally music artists go all out and plan for months to prepare for their performance. This year i feel like only a few went out of their way to make it a good show. I like Justin alot but his performance wasnt very entertaining, and he lip sank the entire time. Added to that, he dropped his drum stick.

vinnie paz is an amazing artist, its a shame he isnt noticed yet. his song "same story (my dedication) is amazing

Honestly i do not undertand the whole Lil Wayne Phenomenon. I understand that he represents that a gangster coming up out of the hood and being able to overcome. But in all honesty he does not represent an icon that many american children should be looking up to. Considering all the drugs and violence that is involved.

Unknown said...

desiree,
lil wayne represents so much more than just drugs and violence. listen to him freestyle, its unbelievable that someone can just listen to a beat for a minute and then go and record a song without writting any thoughts or feelings down, just completely coming right out when he spits. thats true talent and not many other rappers and artists could ever do that.

Unknown said...

Desiree, i honestly don't think that many kids under the age of 13 are very interested in Lil' Wayne anyway. I agree he's not a great icon for people, but why do people always have to look up to a celebrity? I'm sure not many people do these days. Lady Gaga wheres wacked out clothing, but do u see people walking around looking like her? You can listen to the music without becoming the person who sings/raps it.

cara, i love jersey shore its not dunb..its funny and you should just stop being jelous, and they are kinda going somewhere in life for what there doing because now they are famous and getting paided like thousands of dollars an eposode they are doing better they a lot of other people...

I agree with samantha Lil Wayne is a good rapper and performer but Eminem has to be one of the grattes rappers of all time even while suffering with a harmfull addiction .

Kimberly Rotter said...

Eliza,
Who is that artiest you like? What songs does he/she sing??? Never heard of that person.

Melissa,

Come on, kids like to emulate people that they think are cool. And they think someone is cool if they are different. At least that's what I think....You?

the VMAs were ok. eminem was amazing and im so glad hes back. but lady gaga's outfits were sooo ugly and when she cried at the end when she won an award was gay and it kinda got on my nerves, but she is still a great singer.

I did watch the VMAs, I tought this one was not as good as last years though. This might have been because there wasnt as much drama. Like the conflict between Kayne and Taylor. I like Chelsea Handler and her show Chelsea Lately is pretty funny but, I didn't think she did so well hosting the show. It seemed to me she was trying to hard to make people laugh. I totally disagree with Taylor. I LOVE LADY GAGA!! She has great music and loves her fans. Even though she might act and dress weird she still has good intensions. I recently went to one of her concerts about a week ago, The Monster ball tour, and lovedddd it. She did amazing and could prove that she dosen't lip sing. Like many other artist out today who can not sing live if their lives depended on it. Her concert was an experience i will never forget. It was one of the craziest and most wildest concerts i have been to and will go to.

Catherine, are you being serious with your Jersey Shore comments? Because, damn straight, I'm jealous of them being 'paided' to sit around and be obnoxious, orange, subhumans, but that's not my main grievance with the show.
First of all, it's not even accurately representing the Jersey Shore. The entire cast is either from New York or is simply a New York wannabe. Jersey Shore? They should have titled it Benny Beach.
I don't mind NJ being the nation's redheaded stepchild, but I do mind when that image is fueled by shows like this.
But the really sad thing is, TV execs see dollar signs in your eyes. Why take the time, effort, and money to make a quality TV show when they can make a quick buck off of ingrates willing to whore themselves out on MTV?

Unknown said...

Definitely. The VMAs this year wasn't entertaining because of a lack of drama- certainly not due to lack of quality artists.

Unknown said...

mickayla, yeahh i am serious with my jersey shore comments, i love that show and so do a lot of other people..because its entertaining. and thats what a tv show is supposed to be entertaiment so i think your just looking to much into it..

Anonymous said...

ROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFLROFL.

Unknown said...

No, I do not think I am looking 'to' much into it. Shows like this are popular, because no one wants to think. Advertisers love people like you. They'll hook you for an hour at most (Because after that, that demographics’ attention wanes), and pump your eyes with their ads. More money for them, especially when they realize you like bad reality shows that can be made on the cheap. It doesn't matter if the show only lasts a season or two because they can just pump out another generic cookie cutter show and you'll just eat it all up. You don’t have to use your brain and MTV makes out like a bandit.
The only show I can think off the top of my head that I keep coming back to watch over and over again is Doctor Who. Look at how many years that show has been running. It’s because the show’s creators care about the characters and storylines and actually put effort into their creation.

Unknown said...

i agree with samantha i like lil wayne a lot but i do think eminem is better

karl marx...its just a tv show not everything has to have a meaning.. its just fun to watchh

I agree with Mickayla, Jersey Shore is an insult to our state and humanity as a whole. I am from NJ, I enjoy the shore and I am very Italian and I am NOTHING like that and I am glad that I am not. I see it more as a comedy; it should not be taken seriously what so ever. Sorry if I am offending you but the fact that a show such as that even exists feels like an insult to New Jersey.

Unknown said...

FREEEEEEEEEE WEEZY

Unknown said...

Catherine, I don't know how many times I have to type this out until you get it, it's not that Jersey and the like are terrible shows. (God knows, they are, but that's not the point.) The point is, that by watching shows like this, you are encouraging the creation of more shows in the same vein. If you keep showing over and over that these shows are not only tolerable, but loved, they're going to make more.
I'd really love to have more than one show to follow, but- hey, why make a show that means something if you can just film a bunch of STD ridden Guido's on the beach? Let's forget about those genuine fans of storytelling and chase that dollar!

I'm not even one of these people that thinks MTV should just show music videos all day long. (Though they certainly need to play more. I think they've forgotten what the 'M' stands for. Maybe moron?) Some good shows came out of that station, Daria and Beavis & Butthead, for example. But do you ever even see those shows on the air anymore? No. Every time I flip past that channel, after slapping myself for my own stupidity, all I see is Room Raiders, Real World, Jersey Shore, Made, crap. Sometimes you can't even tell which show you're watching, they're all so similar.

Have fun effectively sabotaging my television experience, though.
