Explains how Christie feels about education budget. He claims the amount spent on school takes up the majority of the budget. Includes quotes from individuals stating their opinions on Christie's cuts. Many of them are unhappy about the way things are being done when eduacational spending is concerned.

This article talks about how Gov. Christie has recently crreated a task force to revamp the way teacher evaulations are done. Before doing this though, he forgot to consult the largest teacher's union, the NJEA. Chrisite believes that the current evaluations reward senority, instead of rewards for higher test scores. Since the NJ test scores are so low Christie believes that a change is neccesary. Evaluations are currently that a tenured teacher must be observed once every year by an administrator, and a non tenured teacher must be observed three times a year.

Over the summer, Christie managed to lose $400 million in education funding, all due to a small and easily avoidable error made by the government. There had been a points system used to determine how much funding states get, and New Jersey came up 3 points short of earing a huge amount for education. The error made was easily avoidable.

This is an artical about tax cuts that Christie wants for the rich. The article says that the cuts will make an even bigger hole in the budget, and that the money would be invested mostly outside the state and even outside the country. Little would actually go to the state.

There are some interesting comments from other NJ.com users down at the bottom.. it might be helpfull to check them out.

This article talks about how govenor Christie went to a Trenton school and explained to the students that the reason their funding is being cut is because the teachers want more money and are greedy.

My views are that not all teachers are greedy and want money, they work with children and kids for a reason, not to jip them out of their learning experience and gain pay for themselves.

This article explains the public schools funding in the U.S. It states many facts about who is ranked higher in spending more money and teachers salaries. It gives the average spending per pupil in each state.

My thoughts on this website is that it is very helpful because it gives you actual facts on the average amount of money being spent in each state on each child. To understand problems of education you must understand the finances of schools and this article helps you understand.

http://www.floppingaces.net/2010/05/29/njs-chris-christie-vs-teachers-union/

In this article a group of people meet at a church to listen to Governor Chrsite talk about unions. A teacher named Rita Wilson gets into an arguement with Christie about the amount of money teachers are getting paid. She doesn't think it's fair because if she was being paid $3 an hour for the thirty kids in her class she would be earning $83,000 but she really makes nothing near that. Christie argues back saying that teachers recieve more then that when you include the cost of the benefits they recieve. Christie also expresses some other views and says that if Rita isn't happy with her job "she doesn't have to do it." The article says that when reporters spoke to the woman after the encounter she was shaking and nervous that she was going to get in trouble. Christie was bullying the people of the public to get what he wanted.
I think he feels that he should bully the union so that they are scared of him and won't want to fight back.

In this article Christie meets with students at a school in Trenton and is asked what his battle with teachers is. He told the students that teacher unions are greedy and that teachers only care about how much they are getting paid not how much the students actually learn. The NJEA teachers union argues back because they say Christie has a double standard.
It isn't really right for Christie to be saying this to the students because all he is doing is scaring them and making the teachers sound horrible. I don't really think this is the truth.

In generall to make up for lost aid, districts across the state are sure that property taxes will increase as well as cuts to staff, programmng and student activities. One person, Tiernan Kane argues that Chritie's decisions will make NJ a more business- and citizen-friendly environment.

My point of view is that Christie's decision isnt good for public school children or older students because it will be harder to extend their education beyond high school. His choice is cutting into important education in order to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy.

This article focuses on what the people of NJ think about the education problems. Voters from Rutger stated that not enough money is put into education. This page has a lot of percentages on what people think. Some people think that teacher's need to be required to pass and reading and math test. Teachers' pay shouldn't be based on student test scores. People's reasoning for the education problems are: budgets, teacher-related issues, teacher proficiency, teacher shortages, the teachers' union, "bureaucracy", class size, and teacher tenure.

My point of view is not that the teachers are the main problem but teachers should be required to take a reading and math test in order to teach. Clearly the education system doesn't have one problem for its downfall, many factors are contributing to this issue.

In this argument, the writer claims that the New Jersey government may rule out paying millions of dollars each year for teacher’s pension. The support behind this statement is that the state constitution states that NJ isn’t actually required to pay it. People are fighting back, trying to make funding a constitutional requirement.
Assumptions made: teachers don’t need pension funds.
. That just because it’s not a constitutional requirement it isn’t morally right.
Qualifier: when a state doesn’t pay its full bill each year, it makes future bills higher, which directs the constituents by taking more money away from us. That means we are better off money-wise if the state contributes to teacher pensions.

School Funding (solutions for New Jersey)

This article explains the issue of the Abbot districts and how the government equalizes the most money spent in a wealthy district and spends the same amount on a failing (Abbot) district. This article is against blindly throwing money where it is not needed in these districts, such as $75,000 for a fencing program. I agree with the staement that we need to equalize education and not funding. However, they do need money, just not the astronomical amounts that the govt. is sending them, as the excess is proven not to be helping anyway. The money needs to be invested in productive programs.

A state Superior Court judge has issued an opinion stating the state's Abbott program should be discontinued. The Abbott program provides billions of dollars to the state's poorest school districts. He wants to discontinue this so they money can be split equally between poor and rich school districts.

I do agree with this in one way because rich schools should not be unequally not given money too just because they are rich. That is like giving more taxes to richer people that live in the same town as the poorer people just because they have more money, which is unfair. But in another way, I don’t think it should be discontinued because the poorer schools obviously need the money more then the rich schools.

This is a nice idea but it doesn't benefit the children in the wealthier districts if their funding money is going to other schools. There needs to be a better solution in helping abbott schools instead of taking funding money away from the people who actually pay the taxes on their own.

This article is explaining that Abbott districts are school districts in New Jersey that are provided remedies to ensure that their students receive public education in accordance with New Jersey’s state constitution.

This was a good attempt to help out; however I feel that they should find better solutions to help improve the school districts because it isn't fair to everyone.
